Find UV in Apple Weather
- Open Weather. Choose My Location or the city you want to check.
- Scroll through the weather details. Look for the UV Index panel.
- Read the number and its time context. Check whether you are looking at current conditions or a forecast.
- Check again when your plans change. Make sure the place and time still match your outing.
Panel layouts can change between iOS versions. Apple’s Weather guide confirms that UV index is included among each location’s weather details.
Check the location before the number
When travelling, it is easy to leave a saved city open. Read the city name before using the forecast. Choose your destination if you are planning a trip, and your current location if you are already there.
If My Location is unavailable, check Weather’s location permission in iPhone Settings or select a city manually. A manually selected place is also useful when you want to check a destination before you arrive.
What should you do with the reading?
First establish the location and forecast time. Then use the reading alongside sun-protection guidance. Our UV index explanation covers the scale and the difference between a current reading and a daily peak.
Do not turn the number into an assumed amount of time you can spend outside without protection. A forecast describes conditions, not your individual response.
When is a separate app useful?
Make a short list of what you need beyond Weather. For example, you might want a dedicated UV view, a structured session timer, a history of completed sessions, or private progress photos.
Tantastic brings hourly UV, front/back/shade timers and optional on-device photos together. If those features are not useful to you, Weather may already do what you need. Our best UV index apps shortlist compares different approaches.
Before installing a UV app
- Read the current App Store description and privacy label.
- Check which features require a subscription.
- Look for a workflow you will actually use, rather than choosing by the number of features.
- Remember that a timer is an organisational tool, not a guarantee against skin damage.
